Disconnected Youth in Research Triangle Region” ─ David Dodson

David Dodson, President of MDC, Inc spoke to the Durham Rotary Club on Monday, March 1st. Durham County Commissioner and Durham Rotarian Ellen Reckhow introduced Dodson to the club. She stated that disconnected youth in the RTP is an ominous problem that sits in plain sight. She noted a Portland, Oregon trip taken in 2009 that the commissioners took in order to learn the best practices for dealing with disconnected youth. For instance the Gateway College that was copied from Portland and implemented here in Durham.

Dodson started by stating that he was going to talk about three things.  First, he was going to address why the problem of disconnected youth and young adults matters. Second, he was to describe the degree of the challenge. Third, he planned to tell us what can be done.
